Cranial Electro Stimulation
Mind Alive manufactures a CES device, the variable frequency OASIS®,
that is used with small, self-adhering gel electrodes, usually placed
behind the ears.
The portable OASIS sends out small electrical pulses. The technique of
applying small electrical pulses, usually on or behind the ears, is called
cranial electro stimulation (CES). CES was originally called “electro-sleep”
when it was developed in Russia, but it has been found to have many applications
other than insomnia.
CES has been shown to enhance endorphin production and assist in reaching
deep relaxation. CES has a calming effect on the mind and can reduce anxiety.
CES has also been shown to improve learning. Research has shown that CES
produces mild stimulation to the hypothalamic area of the brain.
Most research with CES over the past 20 years has shown reduced anxiety
and improved cognition in recovering substance abusers and alcoholics.
Although individual responses may vary, studies show many benefits from
CES:
· Deep relaxation
· Improved memory
· Mental clarity
· Improved learning
· Mood elevation
· Sound sleep
· Improved results of addict recovery programs
The frequency of pulses with the OASIS is adjustable from 1-20 Hz. The
intensity is adjustable so it can be set below the level of sensation.
Most research with CES has been done at intensity settings below the level
of sensation.
The OASIS, the only stereo CES device available, is extremely compact
and lightweight. A replaceable 9v battery powers it.
The OASIS can be linked to a DAVID® device with a patch cable to
the eyeset connector on the DAVID. The eyeset is then plugged into the
OASIS. With this setup, the DAVID controls the frequency of the OASIS
and dual frequency stimulation is possible.
